Location
Located in the rolling hills and meadows of south-central Kentucky, covering approximately 500 square miles, Barren County is the Commonwealth’s 13th largest county. The population in 2004 was 39,473. The county seat, Glasgow, is the second largest city within the region. The county, served by Interstate 65 and the Louie B. Nunn Parkway, sits halfway between Louisville, Kentucky (90 miles) and Nashville, Tennessee (90 miles). Its central location provides one-day access to major markets in the Southeast and Midwest. Barren County has historically been a manufacturing center for this region. We have a high concentration of manufacturers and manufacturing employment in our area with over forty companies ranging from 20 to 1,300 employees. We attribute our community’s success to our geographical location, regional labor force, and dedicated leadership. Based on our past successes, I feel confident that you and your company will receive the same positive return on your investment. Click here for map.

Taxes & Incentives
A state sales tax is levied at the rate of 6% on the purchase or lease price of taxable goods and on utility services. Local sales taxes are not levied in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Constitution requires the state to tax all classes of taxable property, and state statutes
allow local jurisdictions to tax only a few classes. All locally taxed property is subject to county
taxes and school district taxes (either a county school district or an independent school district).
Property located inside city limits may also be subject to city property taxes. Property assessments in Kentucky are at 100% fair cash value. Special local taxing jurisdictions (fire protection districts, watershed districts and sanitation districts) levy taxes within their operating areas (usually a small
portion of the community or county). Click here for general fact sheets on federal, state and local business and personal taxes.
